Rollerbury Reunion - Colchester Rollerworld August 26th 2006

To get to Rollerworld in Colchester from Rollergroove Towers, involves travelling 109 miles (one way) and passing through major road-works on the M1 and M25. Was it worth the travel for the Rollerbury reunion? YOU BETCHA!

The Rollergroovers arrived at 7.40pm to join the growing queue. There was a tangible sense in the air that this may well prove to be a special night. And it was. There were many familiar (and slightly aged!) faces floating around inside although the Rollergroovers’ memories are not what they once were and names proved to be a problem…

There was even an appearance by Rollerbury DJ Fluff, whom this Rollergroover has not seen since the early part of the last decade and if that was not a big enough surprise, there was a skate-bomb dropped at the rink as the legendary Matt Williams made a triumphant return to skating. The Rollergroovers have not seen Matt for over 10 years and he has hardly changed. Still looks like Wesley Snipes. Along with appearances by Keith Coke and Paul Goulbourne, this completed a triumvirate of legendary Rollerbury skaters.

Sadly Andy Gray and Robbie France couldn’t make it, but I’m sure this will not be the last Rollerbury reunion. Making an appearance outside of his native Norwich was Keith’s protégé Derek. When the Rollergroovers tell you this kid is special, you better believe it. You will see big things from him in years to come.

Helping to make the night was the extended Rollergroove family of Mickey and JoJo and posses from MK, Hemel, WGC (Narleih, Richard, Matt and the Rubberselector himself) and Ipswich (in Paul’s case via Sheffield).

All in all, and excellent night’s skating and we look forward to the next major event.
