Vauxhall Rollerdisco – February 10th 2007

What’s your idea of a good night out? Great music, great people, great fun and roller-skating?

Welcome to Vauxhall Rollerdisco!!!

This was the most fun the Rollergroovers have had in 2007 so far. Where do I start? How about the beginning….?

A few weeks ago Richard Humphrey posted online he was planning a visit to the UK.
Well, last week he landed in England and brought Phil Meyers several thousand miles with him to Vauxhall.

We left Rollergroove Towers around 5.30pm to allow plenty of time to allow for roadworks and hold-ups and get to Vauxhall for opening time. After a smooth trip down the M1 we ground to a virtual halt on the A5 Edgware Road. I hate city traffic.

Eventually we arrived at the Renaissance Rooms nice and early and were greeted by friendly and professional security.

Once inside the venue, we felt instantly at home. Considering it’s not a purpose built rink, the venue fits the bill perfectly.

From the get-go there was a great vibe and sterling music flowing from the very capable sound system with two more-than acceptable floors for skating.

HSG introduced us to Richard Humphrey and Phil Meyers and it was immediately apparent that these were two very nice guys.

All night long they gave everyone the benefit of their expertise and experience in formation roller-dance and we are all the richer for it.

Their teaching method of small groups of basic moves works wonderfully and it is something we plan to put to good use.

The usual suspects were in effect, Wayne, Lorraine, Skate Lisa, Loco et al. It was good to see Smurf again as well.
Not only that but the night was all the more special as Joniquai made the long trip down from Leeds on a train (which broke down!).
The Rollergroovers gave-it-large the whole time we were there and burnt more than a few calories in the process.
In the space of a few hours this newest of venues has become one of, if not THE favourite place for us to skate.
